Romanesque Road

Some 1,000 years ago, this was a centre of occidental history, and evidence of the Ottonians can still be found along the Romanesque Road. Seventy-two monuments at 60 locations afford a profound insight into the mediaeval world. Cathedrals and churches, palaces, castles and monasteries of European standing are linked throughout Sachsen-Anhalt by the more than 1,000 km long Romanesque Route. Divided into a northern and a southern route which intersect at the state capital of Magdeburg, the Romanesque Road leads one to the sites where a history rich in legend and mystery was played out.
