Cultural Heritage

Sachsen-Anhalt has an extraordinarily rich cultural heritage. UNESCO has placed Quedlinburg’s Old Town, the Bauhaus in Dessau, the Luther-related sites in Wittenberg and Eisleben and the Dessau-Wörlitzer Garden Realm on its World Heritage list. There are also many other highly significant cultural assets. With its wide variety of architectural, and archaeological monuments (german) - as well as those relating to the history of art - Sachsen-Anhalt occupies a prominent position in Germany. “The Romanesque Road” is one of the numerous points of interest for cultural tourism. The state’s museums (german) are impressive for their comprehensive collections and uncommon exhibits.

In the future, the cultural assets of Sachsen-Anhalt can also be awarded the newly created EU cultural heritage seal. The “Sites of the Reformation” (german) and “Iron Curtain” (german) networks have already been given the EU seal.

With the European Year of Cultural Heritage due to take place in 2018, the EU is championing an “integrated concept.” (german)
