Luther Country

Sachsen-Anhalt was home to the cradle of the Reformation. Martin Luther was born in Eisleben, and it was in nearby Mansfeld that he grew up. When he nailed his theses to the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg, he was to change the world. The places associated with Luther in Eisleben and Wittenberg comprise a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and thus one of the four contributions which Sachsen-Anhalt makes to the total of 25 UNESCO Sites in Germany. Following in the footsteps of Martin Luther, his friends and adversaries, visiting the historic sites of the Reformation and encountering 16th century culture at close quarters brings German history to life once more.
