Naturalization test
A knowledge of the legal and social order and life conditions in Germany is required for naturalization. This knowledge generally must be demonstrated by passing the naturalization test.
Tip: The successful completion of a German general-education school (at least middle school) is also sufficient. Exceptions are provided for people who have not been able to acquire or demonstrate a sufficient knowledge of the German language and the legal and social order due to their physical or emotional illness or intellectual capacity or handicap or due to their age.
You can find further information about the naturalization test here. The naturalization test contains a total of 310 questions. 300 of them are national and 10 are specific to the state. The Federal Office for Migration and Refugees assembles 33 test questions at a time into a questionnaire. 30 questions relate to the general categories of life in a democracy, history, and responsibilities, as well as people and society. Three questions relate to the state, in this case Sachsen-Anhalt. All the questionnaires have the same degree of difficulty.
The questionnaire must be finished within an hour. In each case, four possible answers are provided, one of which is correct. The test is passed if 17 questions are answered correctly. The naturalization test can be taken as often as desired.
