Cultural Beacons and Diversity in the Region

In addition to the Dessau-Wörlitzer Garden Realm, the Luther-related sites and the Dessau Bauhaus, the state’s “cultural beacons” include the Francke Foundations (german), the Moritzburg Foundation (german) and the Naumburg Cathedral (german). Furthermore, there are attractive cultural offerings in all the state’s regions. In the Altmark, for instance, the Winckelmann Museum recalls Stendal, an important son of the city. In the Harz mountains, visitors to Quedlinburg can not only admire its famous cathedral. There are also exhibits worth seeing in the Lyonel Feininger Gallery. The Novalis Museum in the Oberwiederstedt Castle (german) in the southern cultural area introduces the life of the young Romantic, who died young. The Anhalt-Bitterfield-Wittenberg region is striking for its Kurt Weill Festival, among other attractions. The Telemann Festival Days (german) in Magdeburg is a special high point in the musical life of the state capital. A cultural landscape especially rich in tradition can be found in Halle. The annual Handel Festival is a cultural highlight with national appeal.
