Filmland Sachsen-Anhalt

Hollywood may be a dream factory - in Sachsen-Anhalt we create facts. The world’s first practical multi-layer colour film was developed here: The film factory Wolfen cornered the market in cinema screens in the 1930s with its “Agfacolor”, taking on in the process the giant American company, Kodak. Sachsen-Anhalt brought colour to the film. Today, it is the film that brings Sachsen-Anhalt into the cinemas.

More and more film makers are discovering the possibilities of a multifaceted setting steeped in history which at the same time has not been used before as a location. This is why Sachsen-Anhalt was chosen as the location for international film productions such as the “Monuments Men” with George Clooney and Cate Blanchett. It is also the location for “The Physician” watched by audiences totalling 3.5 million.

A major impact on the international film music sector has been exerted not least by the annual Filmmusiktage Sachsen-Anhalt (Film Music Days Sachsen-Anhalt) in Halle (Saale).

With its state-of-the-art studios for film and audio production the city of Handel’s birth together with the Central German Multimedia Centre (MZ) has become an established location for postproductions, combining under one roof production, communication, teaching, research, development and innovative networks, a combination that is unique in Sachsen-Anhalt.
